Rules (experimental, possibly subject to change)
Since this is the inaugural season, rules, regulations and the way in which things work may change as the kinks and creases are ironed out.
Basic rules and information at present:
- predict the outcome of each EPL game on the basis Home win, Away win, Draw, so for each game you enter one of H, A, D (probably transition to full score predictions once everything is running smoothly)
- you can send predictions to footy@thatblokedadal.com; (this may change to an online form in time)
- since the leaderboard is based on percentages, you can miss weeks but in order to remain eligible you must predict at least 30 weeks out of the 38 weeks in the EPL season
- if you predict one game in a particular week, you must predict for all games in that week (i.e. you cannot cherry pick games)
- you can change your prediction(s) up until 5 minutes before kick-off time for any game, but not after kick-off time; timestamp on the email will decide the time
- leaderboard will (hopefully) be updated within 24 hours after the conclusion of games
- entries in the leaderboard that begin with 'M' followed by a digit (M1, M2, M3 ...) are predictions based on machine learning models; for transparency the predictions made by computer models will appear on a separate copy of the fixture list
- entries in the leaderboard marked 'CS' are Chris Sutton's predictions; he posts them each week on the BBC web site and they're included here for comparison reasons only
- entries in the leaderboard marked 'MX' represent predictions based on the majority choice for each game
- to retain anonymity on the leaderboard a random identfier made up of four random characters will be assigned to each participant when their first predictions are received
- it's recommended to view these web pages on a larger screen (computer or laptop) rather than phone due to the potential size and complexity of the tables
- if you have more than one email address, make sure you send from the same address in order to keep your predictions together
- if you have any questions, problems, recommendations, criticisms, feedback etc. then feel free to send a note to footy@thatblokedadal.com
- don't take it too seriously; at the end of the day it's just a bit of competitive fun that allows you to pit your wits against man, woman and machine
